Shirley Ceravolo (b. 1993) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Montréal, QC, Canada. Her long-sustained curiosity about the nature, structure and materiality of the universe has led her practice to be primarily concerned with making artistic inquiries into astrophysical concepts, from micro to macro. Following her interest in how making art can be a method of astronomical observation, Ceravolo uses fibre, installation and photography to creatively respond to research: reading books, attending public astrophysics lectures, and reading scientific journals and magazines. Her current areas of interest are cosmology & the early universe, astrophysical phenomena, optics, and material genealogy. The potentiality of seeing the mundane as cosmic is foundational to her practice.
Ceravolo holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus on Fibres and Material Practices from Concordia University. Her recent exhibitions were at Agora du Cœur des Sciences UQAM (Montréal, QC), InterAccess (Toronto. ON), and Art Mûr (Montréal, QC).
